Telltale Signs In Insulation Problems Part TWO

Of course, temperature is one of the strongest and most evident telltale signs.  But there are others that are just as important and that can shed some light into whether your home is properly and adequately insulated.

This is part TWO of our series.

  • Bills!!

When the insulation fails in your home, your bills for the AC or the heating will rise. Of course, this rise will not occur overnight and you might oversee this important change. It is not easy to keep track of how much you are paying for these energy bills; still there is no need to go back several months or years to see if there is any change.

All you really need to do is compare the last three month’s receipts. If you are in the hottest months of the year, you will see an increase, even if it is just of a few dollars. The increase should be constant, even if one or two dollars.

Why is this important? Well, it might be that you are not aware of the slight changes of temperature unless they are very extreme. This is particularly true when it comes to the hot months of the year; as it is easier for you to break a sweat, it could be tricky to estimate or value the true temperature of a room

  • Cold to the touch!!

It might be that you are not able to notice a clear difference or raise in your monthly bill due to many different reasons. Despite it all, you still believe that your home could be experiencing a problem with the insulation, then you can always do the “touch” test.
The touch test means that you will be touching the walls, floors and ceilings as well as the doors of your home. To explain it a little bit better… Let’s say that it is the hot season and thus you have the AC on so that your home feels cool. This means that neither the walls, doors or floors of your home should be warm to the touch.

In the second floor, temperature could raise if there is a problem with the insulation because the roof gets the whole full exposure to the sunlight during the entirety of the day.
The same applies during the cold months of the year.

  • Cold, cool or ok with your room temperature?

While we are not getting into the religious beliefs of anyone. A cold or TOO cold room when you are trying to warm up your house could mean the exact same thing when it is too hot when you are cooling your home. There is a problem with the insulation.

One of the telltale signs of this problem is the exact location of the problematic room. If the room in question is above the garage or below the attic and they are well ventilated, that are the best telltale rooms for insulation problems.
